Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions that you might want to know about acupuncture! If the question you have is not answered here, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are way thinner than the normal needles used in syringes. You will almost not be able to feel them when inserted into the target area. For some, they may feel a pressure-like sensation. If there is increased sensitivity in the area, we modify the treatment to something topical if it is too inflamed to treat directly.

Is it safe?
Acupuncture and other TCM modalities are safe as long as they are performed by a licensed and trained practitioner like Dr. Ting Wu. We use single-use sterilized needles that are safely disposed of after every treatment.

What if I’m afraid of needles?
If you are uncomfortable with the idea of needles but would still like to get the benefits of acupuncture, let us know so we can make adjustments to your treatment plan. You may start with acupressure and ear seeding treatments. We also offer cold laser therapy, a painless and needleless treatment that can be done on the acupuncture points.

What can I expect on the first visit?
During the initial consultation, your medical history and evaluation are taken. This includes Dr. Ting checking your pulse and tongue, palpation in the area of injury, and other tests that are relevant to your health complaint. After the consultation, a detailed treatment plan and the exact costs are provided before starting the treatment.

We save the room for new patients for an hour and a half. That way we can start the treatment on the same day if you like to.

How long does each treatment session take?
If this is your first appointment with us, a room is saved for about an hour and a half for you. Initial consultation lasts 15 to 30 minutes and the remainder of the time is allotted for the treatment session.

The duration of the follow-up sessions depends on your specific condition and treatment plan. Kindly allow at least an hour for every visit.

What do I need to bring?
For your first appointment, we highly recommend you bring any imaging or lab results you have that are related to the condition you are coming in for. You should also bring a list of the medications and supplements that you are previously and currently taking. All of these are necessary to save you time and to help us create a suitable treatment plan for you.

Should I come fasted?
Please have a small amount of food prior to your appointment. So you're not famished or overly bloated for your time here.

Can I work out afterward?
As a general rule, it is best to avoid heavy or strenuous activities at least two hours after the acupuncture appointment. In some cases, you may need a day to rest, especially if you received treatment for physical injuries. It's best to let Dr. Ting know if you have a strenuous activity scheduled after your treatment.

Can I go to work afterward?
Many of our patients come in midday and go to work after their treatment. As long as your work does not require you to do heavy physical activities, it's generally okay to go to work after acupuncture treatment. Keep in mind that different bodies react to different conditions. Find what works best for you to plan your next appointment accordingly.
